Count Peoria record store Younger Than Yesterday among the businesses that recently boarded up their storefront in the wake of looting in the area.
Younger Than Yesterday, 2615 North University Street, has been a frequent stop of Central Illinois record collectors for the past 22 years. The store moved to that address after a stint along West Main Street in Peoria.
On May 30, Younger Than Yesterday opened back up to customers following a brief closure to comply with state-mandated precautions due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Boards were seen covering the storefront’s windows three days later.
Fortunately, the boards didn’t go up due to damage to the Younger Than Yesterday. Instead, they were put up as a “precaution” according to a post on the store’s Facebook page.
The post also promised that the storefront would “soon take on a new personalty” and that a local artist would be somehow involved in the project.
Days later, a mural inspired by Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” could be seen by those passing the store.
Younger Than Yesterday is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
